The annual perennial plant sale, a longstanding tradition in Vernon, is gearing up for its 21st year. The event aims to generate funds for both O’Keefe Ranch and educational initiatives at Allan Brooks Nature Centre.
This year marks a significant change, as the sale will be held at O’Keefe’s Ranch, departing from its usual location at Allan Brooks. Hosted by the Plant Ladies, the sale is scheduled for May 25, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ann Cordingley, a representative of the group, highlighted the convenience of the new venue, emphasizing that most of the plants originate from O’Keefe’s Ranch. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the gardens and witness the plants featured in the sale thriving in their natural environment.
As the members of the group have downsized their gardens over the years, there is a decreased availability of donated plants. Cordingley encourages anyone willing to contribute to bring labeled potted plants to the ranch before May 24. She notes that now is an ideal time to divide perennial plants, ensuring their vigor and health for the sale.
Reflecting on the evolution of the group, Cordingley mentioned the advancing age of its members, with the oldest being 93 and a noticeable absence of younger participants. Nonetheless, the group remains dedicated to their cause, hoping for a successful 21st plant sale event.
