Garden Show’s ‘Flowers from Around the World

Garden Club Flower Show Winners Announced.

The latest flower show hosted by the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs showcased a variety of creative floral designs. The competition featured several classes, each with unique design requirements.

Class No. 1: Walking on the Beach in Australia

This class required a miniature design no larger than 5 inches in any direction. The top finishers were:

1. Cherry Kough

2. Sarah Grafton

3. Gasser

4. Norma Harris

Class No. 2: To Paris with Love

Participants in this class created a traditional horizontal design. The winners were:

1. Gasser

2. Susan Tatar

3. Cherry Kough

4. Sarah Grafton

Class No. 3A: Visiting Washington, D.C.

This category featured a creative duo design, requiring two different arrangements in the same vase, separated by a divider. The top finishers were:

1. Cherry Kough

2. Sarah Grafton

3. Bernadine Sliva

4.Joyce Griffin

Officials noted that Norma Harris also had an entry in this category.

Class No. 3B: Under the Sea in Hawaii

This class involved a creative underwater design, using one or more containers with some components submerged. The winners were:

1. Cherry Kough

2. Sarah Grafton

3. Gasser

4. Elaine Wukelic

Norma Harris also had an entry in this category.

Class No. 4: Under the Sea in Hawaii

Participants created a design using underwater elements. The winners were:

1. Cherry Kough

2. Sarah Granton

3. Gasser

4. Elaine Wukelic

Class No. 5: The Golden Gate Bridge

This class featured a satellitic design with two containers connected by a curved line. The top finishers were:

1. Gasser

2. Susan Tatar

3. Cherry Kough

4. Sarah Grafton

Kim Slivka collected the entries and extra flowers, donating them to Valley Hospice. Nine arrangements and additional flowers were also taken to Liza’s Place Care Center South in Oglebay. Center officials expressed their gratitude, noting that the flowers brightened the patients’ day.

“We, as a Garden Club, were very happy to donate the arrangements to the patients at the center,” stated Sarah Grafton.

The Ohio Association of Garden Clubs will hold its 2024 convention from August 26-28 at Maumee Bay State Park Lodge in Oregon, Ohio. The 2024 OAGC Convention Flower Show, titled “It’s the Little Things,” will feature artistic flowers and horticulture.
