WOODBURY — The Pomperaug Valley Garden Club will present the program “Invasive Plants Among Us” at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8. The event will take place at the Woodbury Firehouse, located at 25 Quassuk Rd. The public is invited to attend with a suggested donation.

The program will be led by Holly Kocet and Barbara Thomas. Kocet, a co-founder and Education Committee chair of Protect Our Pollinators, also serves as chairman of the Newtown Conservation Commission. She is a Certified Advanced Master Gardener and Environmental & Conservation co-chair for the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. Her experience includes seven seasons at Earth Tones Native Plant Nursery in Woodbury, where she developed a deep appreciation for native plants and their role in supporting pollinators.

Barbara Thomas, an Advanced UConn Master Gardener, is the current chair of the Monroe Conservation Commission and a board member of the Aspetuck Land Trust. She is dedicated to environmental education and long-term preservation efforts.

The presentation will cover how invasive plants are affecting natural areas and private gardens. Kocet and Thomas will use vibrant photos of gardens and roadsides in Newtown to illustrate what invasive plants look like, their origins, how they spread, and methods for controlling them.
