QUAD CITIES, IA/IL – The Iowa-Illinois region is bracing for cold weather as freezing temperatures are predicted from tonight through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued frost and freeze warnings for both states, urging residents to take necessary precautions. Temperatures may dip to as low as 29 degrees in some areas, resulting in a hard freeze by Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service forecasts that lows will range from 31 to 38 degrees on Monday, dropping further into the low 30s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Homeowners are advised to disconnect hoses and sprinkler systems to prevent them from freezing. It is also recommended to cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors to protect them from frost damage.
Looking ahead, daytime highs are expected to reach the mid-60s. However, strong winds are forecasted to gust between 30 and 40 mph today, particularly affecting rural areas and open roadways like I-80. These gusty conditions raise the risk of field fires. With dry fields, farm equipment could ignite fires if precautions are not taken. Residents are advised to refrain from outdoor burning until wind conditions improve.
As the week progresses, temperatures will remain chilly, especially during the early mornings. Quad Cities residents should expect cold, frosty starts on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. For the rest of the week, high temperatures are anticipated to reach the upper 60s, with the risk of frost diminishing by Thursday morning.
