COOPERSTOWN—Mohican Flowers Participates in Nationwide ‘Petal It Forward’ Campaign.
Mohican Flowers is taking part in a national initiative today, surprising Cooperstown residents with free flower bouquets as part of the “Petal It Forward” campaign. The initiative, led by the Society of American Florists, involves distributing two bouquets to passersby—one to keep and one to give to someone else, whether a friend, family member, colleague, or even a stranger.
This random-act-of-kindness campaign aims to spread positivity and alleviate stress. Research from the University of North Florida supports the idea that having flowers around can reduce stress levels. Organizers intentionally scheduled the event for mid-week, hoping to brighten people’s day and combat the typical Wednesday slump.
The “keep one, share one” concept behind Petal It Forward is backed by statistics showing the emotional impact of flowers. While 80% of people report that receiving flowers brings them joy, an even higher number—88%—say giving flowers makes them happier.
Hanna Bergene-Bauer of Mohican Flowers expressed excitement about participating in the initiative and making a positive impact in the local community.
“We experience the joy flowers bring every day, and we’re thrilled to share that with others,” Bauer said. “We hope these small gestures will brighten someone’s day and provide a brief moment of calm in a busy world.”
Along with this week’s Petal It Forward event, Mohican Flowers is partnering with Bassett Healthcare Network to donate 200 pink carnations for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, supporting the “GO PINK” campaign.
“It’s a great feeling to be able to give back to our community in different ways this week,” Bauer added.
