Public Invited to Tree Planting Event on October 26.

The Clean River Advisory Council (C-RAC) invites the public to a tree planting event on Saturday, October 26. This event aims to launch the Mississippi River Equity Vision, promoting a brighter and more equitable future for river communities.

Scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. in Rock Island, the event will include tree planting, speeches from organizational leaders, and opportunities for community members to engage with the C-RAC project. This initiative is a collaboration between C-RAC, the West End Revitalization Project, Rock Island County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Living Lands and Waters.

C-RAC is a partnership involving the Walton Family Foundation and the Quad Cities Community Foundation, guided by Iman Consulting. The council focuses on inclusive, community-based efforts to connect people with the Mississippi River, prioritizing communities of color and others historically excluded from environmental decision-making.

“Urban communities can significantly advance nature-based solutions for issues like runoff, pollution, and soil erosion,” said Dr. LaDrina Wilson, founder of Iman Consulting and C-RAC coordinator. “Tree equity, which addresses the shortage of trees in underserved areas, is one of the community-led, equity-driven projects we are tackling. We are excited to share this vision with the public.”

A key goal for C-RAC is developing the Mississippi River Equity Vision (M-REV), a plan designed to connect communities and emphasize the importance of culture, wellness, and belonging along the Mississippi River. This event marks the official public launch of the M-REV.
