In a bid to beautify Chiswick, Abundance London has ordered a record number of bulbs for the current season. This initiative aims to transform neglected areas into vibrant flower-filled spaces. Over the past 18 months, Abundance has made some structural changes, including the appointment of “Head Gardeners” for each of its twenty-plus small gardens.
Each garden has a unique character. For example, Beaconsfield Gardens, located off Acton Lane, features a variety of trees, wildflower sections, a stumpery, and an insect hotel. In contrast, the Library Garden is more modest, consisting of a raised bed the size of a car and a few borders along Chiswick Library’s walls. Despite their differences, all of Abundance’s gardens contribute to biodiversity and enhance the beauty of the area, replacing weeds and litter with colorful flowers.
This week, thousands of daffodils, tulips, crocuses, and alliums arrived and were distributed among the Head Gardeners according to their needs. These flowers are funded through generous donations, sales of Abundance apple juice, and contributions from local restaurants in exchange for local fruits like damsons, quinces, and apples. At the end of each season, Abundance often receives leftover bulbs from various suppliers, leading to an additional planting surge in late December.
Recently, a dedicated team from the global law firm Clyde & Co collaborated with local residents to plant a vibrant display of crocuses. They planted 3,500 Barr’s Purple crocuses and another 3,500 Golden Yellow Mammoths along Fishers Lane, creating a striking visual effect that will extend towards St Albans Church. Abundance appreciates the support of the Ealing Parks Department, with whom they work closely.
Currently, Abundance is seeking a Head Gardener for the Subway Garden, located at the entrance of the subway under the A4 on Sutton Court Road. Interested individuals are encouraged to get in touch. Additionally, those who wish to participate in occasional work sessions can also reach out via email at info@abundancelondon
