Enumclaw Flower Farmer Brings Unique Bloom to Local Market.

ENUMCLAW, Wash. — Enumclaw’s own flower farmer, Kelsey Hall, is gearing up for her annual seed and dahlia tuber sales, sharing insights with KIRO 7 on her latest eye-catching bloom.

Hall, the owner of Cattle & Cut Flowers, is well-known in the community for her lush bouquets, Highland cows, and engaging workshops. But her specialty is dahlias.

“I just got totally bit by the dahlia bug,” Hall told KIRO 7. “They’ve always been kind of my passion.”

Her enthusiasm for dahlias has grown considerably over the years. What began with around 30 plants in her first season has now expanded to more than 4,000 blooms.

Demand for her flowers and gardening classes surged this season, especially after the discovery of a new flower variation in late August — the “daffodahlia.” Six of her plants produced a unique, cup-shaped bloom resembling a daffodil, with petals curving forward instead of backward. This mutation retained the original colors of each variety, but the shape was distinct. Hall noted that while not every bloom showed the trait, more than half on each plant displayed this intriguing change.

“I have a few hunches about what’s going on, but I’ll need to wait until next season to test these theories and know for sure,” she shared on her website.

To encourage the new form, Hall is saving seeds, tubers, and cuttings from the daffodahlia, hoping to replicate the bloom in future seasons.

Although this year’s dahlia season has concluded, Hall is hard at work collecting and organizing tubers for her February 2 online sale. The daffodahlia, however, won’t be available for purchase as it’s undergoing tests for stability and future viability.

“For now, we’re staying hopeful and keeping a close eye on these beauties,” Hall said.

For those interested in learning more about dahlia gardening, Hall will host a virtual “Dahlia 101” class on November 3, offering tips for both novice and experienced growers.
