Vibrant Woody Plants That Attract Butterflies and Moths

by Anna

Did you know that oak trees serve as the larval host for over 500 species of butterflies and moths? Join us for an engaging presentation that will delve into the diverse trees, evergreens, shrubs, and vines that provide habitats for various Lepidoptera. We will discuss the host plants and life cycles of both common favorites and rare beauties.

Heather Prince, a trained horticulturist and landscape consultant, will lead the discussion. She specializes in trees, shrubs, and native plants and has a passion for connecting people with the natural world. Heather enjoys sharing her extensive knowledge through teaching engagements at institutions such as The Morton Arboretum, Chicago Botanic Garden, Olbrich Botanical Gardens, and Edith Farnsworth House. She also shares her insights at garden clubs and industry events.

This event is open to everyone, including children who are accompanied by an adult.

Please note that this month’s LCAS meeting will take place at the Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills. We will return to Cook Library for our December meeting and then continue at Aspen Drive for several months in 2025 due to planned construction at Cook Library.
