WARSAW — On Saturday, Nov. 2, Cub Scout Pack 3731 joined local volunteers to plant trees at Bixler Park in Warsaw as part of the city’s Community Tree Planting Day.
The Pack played a major role in the event, contributing 18 of the 30 volunteers who participated. Six Cub Scouts attended, joined by their parents, siblings, and friends. Some parents volunteered even though their Scouts were unable to attend.
“Cub Scouts are involved in many outdoor activities, so this was a great opportunity for us to give back to the community,” said Connie Penninger, the Cub master. “Planting trees was a fun way for Scouts, parents, siblings, and friends to work together. The Scouts will always remember which trees they planted when we meet at Bixler Park.”
The city of Warsaw expressed its gratitude for the help from Pack 3731.
“We’ve been planning this community planting since May, and the Cub Scouts were some of our first and most excited volunteers,” said Iris Sorrell, an Indiana University intern who helped oversee the project. “Their energy was contagious and helped us plant over 20 trees for the community to enjoy.”
Jackson Longenbaugh, assistant city planner, also thanked the volunteers. “The Cub Scouts and all the volunteers made a big impact today. It’s wonderful to know that these trees will be enjoyed by our community for years to come.”
