2024 Horticulture Census: USDA Grows More Time For Farmers To Submit Data

by Anna

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has extended the deadline for the 2024 Census of Horticultural Specialties. Farmers and growers now have until April 18, 2025, to submit their responses. This census, conducted once every five years, is the only detailed source of production and sales data for the U.S. floriculture, nursery, and specialty crop industries, including greenhouse food crops.

NASS encourages growers to complete their surveys as soon as possible. They can do this online at agcounts.usda.gov or by mail. The online form is easy to use, works on most devices, and saves time by auto-calculating totals and skipping irrelevant questions.

NASS staff will continue to collect data. They urge respondents to return their forms quickly. If someone who received the form is no longer in the horticulture business or needs help, they can call 888-424-7828 for assistance.

The 2024 Census of Horticultural Specialties will build on the 2022 Census of Agriculture. It will include details on crop production, product values, growing space, and expenses.

By federal law (Title 7 USC 2204(g) Public Law 105-113), producers must respond to the census. The law also requires NASS to keep all individual responses confidential.
