Instead of spending your time pulling weeds, Chris suggests a simpler solution: ground cover plants. These plants do more than just decorate your garden—they act as a natural barrier against weeds.
Chris explains, “Ground cover plants create a dense canopy over the soil, blocking sunlight and preventing weeds from sprouting.” By covering the soil, these plants stop sunlight from reaching weed seeds, which keeps them from growing.
One plant that is particularly effective at stopping weeds is Glandora prostrata, also known as “Heavenly Blue.” This evergreen plant not only provides year-round greenery but also suppresses weeds by forming a thick, protective layer. Chris recommends this plant for its beauty and practical benefits.
“Heavenly Blue” thrives in well-drained sandy or loamy soils, making it a perfect addition to many gardens. For gardens with heavier, more water-retentive soils, Chris suggests plants like Bergenia purpurascens or Rhododendron Bloombux.
