Royal Brinkman Canada is set to introduce the UniMite bio-distributor for the first time at the Canadian Greenhouse Conference, scheduled for October 4-5, 2023, in Niagara Falls. The UniMite bio-distributor leverages bio-spreader technology, enabling the easy and uniform distribution of natural enemies within crops. This precise distribution of beneficial organisms is pivotal in achieving optimal results and a successful Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. The key lies in maximizing the presence of natural enemies and positioning them strategically for effective pest control.
Royal Brinkman has long been recognized for its expertise, advisory services, and specialized equipment tailored to the deployment of biological crop protection. Kameron Fordyce, Branch Manager of Royal Brinkman Canada, emphasized their commitment, stating, “In our range, you will find AgroBio biological control agents and beneficial insects, and now, application technology calibrated for the efficient distribution of AgroBio products. Our agronomy and scouting team develops tailor-made programs specific to crop type, crop stage, and pest pressure to optimize yield and crop quality.”
While bio dispersal can be carried out manually, it is a labor-intensive process and tends to be less precise. Fordyce emphasized the significant advantages of utilizing the UniMite bio-spreader systems, including the UniMite Air and the UniMite Slider, for achieving a uniform and efficient distribution of predatory mites and feeder mites throughout the crop. This approach enhances the success of biological control while substantially reducing labor requirements.
The UniMite Air, for instance, is a bio-blower system capable of uniformly spreading predatory mites across a 10-meter width. It is adaptable for use on a pipe rail or monorail system and finds application in numerous ornamental crops, including chrysanthemums and roses, among others. On the other hand, the UniMite Slider is designed for cucumbers and is mounted on a pipe rail trolley. With this system, one employee can operate the UniMite Slider, directing the bio spreader pipes above two rows of plants simultaneously. The result is the placement of biological material at the center of the top of the plants, optimizing pest control.
Visitors to the Canadian Greenhouse Conference can view the UniMite Slider in action at the Royal Brinkman Canada booth, located at #815 during CGC 2023. Furthermore, UniMite bio-distribution systems can be customized to suit specific crops and greenhouse setups, offering flexibility to growers.
