Camden County Introduces Seed Saving Library to Foster Sustainable Gardening

by Anna

Camden County, located in southern New Jersey, is embarking on a mission to enhance community engagement in sustainable gardening through a novel seed saving program tailored for its residents.

This innovative initiative, timed strategically before April showers, aims to cultivate a vibrant array of May flowers across South Jersey.

While seed saving libraries are already flourishing in various regions of the state, Camden County is inaugurating its inaugural year of the initiative.

Residents can obtain complimentary seeds at local libraries such as the Gloucester Twp-Blackwood Rotary Branch, fostering a culture of curiosity and understanding around gardening and sustainability.

Camden County Commissioner Jonathan Young remarked, “When we step into this establishment, we are assured that Spring has arrived.”

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Camden County Commissioners and the county’s Certified Gardeners, designed to launch a seed-saving library program empowering residents to select and request flowers, fruits, or vegetables from an extensive online catalog.

Participants can conveniently retrieve their chosen seeds from their neighborhood library, marking a significant step towards fostering sustainable practices and community involvement in gardening endeavors.
