Golden Valley Resident Transforms Yard into a Blooming Haven

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Warren Kapsner’s Golden Valley home has become a must-see destination this spring, with over 10,000 daffodils adorning every corner of his yard.

Kapsner, the proud homeowner, expressed his delight in the community’s appreciation of his floral display. “Personally, I just like the fact that people really enjoy it and they really appreciate it,” he shared.

The sheer magnitude of Kapsner’s daffodil collection is staggering, with estimates ranging from 8,000 to 10,000 blooms. Reflecting on his gardening journey, Kapsner noted that while he has cultivated daffodils for years, the COVID-19 pandemic spurred him to expand his floral landscape. “With the pandemic, there was nothing to do, so that’s kind of what probably drove it forward a bit more,” he explained.

His initial planting of 1,500 bulbs in 2020 grew exponentially, with an additional 1,000 bulbs added the following year, resulting in a total of over 5,000 bulbs currently in bloom. Anticipating two to four blooms per bulb, Kapsner expects the floral spectacle to reach its peak over the next few weeks, benefiting from the current ideal weather conditions. “This weather is ideal for them,” Kapsner remarked. “It’ll be good for another week or two unless it gets really hot.”

Despite the temporary nature of the blooms, Kapsner encourages the community to visit and experience the vibrant display before the daffodils enter their dormant phase. “That’s the beauty of the daffodils: You plant them, and that’s it. You don’t have to do anything,” he explained. “So next year, there’ll be thousands of more blooms to the point where it’ll just be a sea of flowers.”

Residents interested in witnessing Kapsner’s floral paradise firsthand can find it located at 130 Edgewood Ave. S. in Golden Valley.
