The recent revival of Addingham’s spring flower show has been hailed as a success by its organizers, who were thrilled with the turnout from the local community.
Organized by the Addingham Allotments and Gardens Association, the 40th spring show and coffee morning took place at the Addingham Memorial Hall, marking its return after a hiatus of five years since its last edition in 2019.
Despite concerns over the impact of recent adverse weather conditions on local gardens, the event saw an impressive turnout, with nearly 100 exhibits on display.
Of particular note was the significant participation from Addingham Primary School, whose pupils enthusiastically embraced the theme of ‘spring’ and contributed a remarkable 177 exhibits to the children’s classes.
Peter Cooke, the show’s secretary, expressed his delight at the community’s response, both in terms of participation and attendance. He remarked, “We didn’t know what to expect, especially after the recent prolonged spell of inclement weather, but we were absolutely delighted with the response of our local community, both as exhibitors and visitors.”
The show featured a diverse range of classes including flowers and plants, floral art, photography, and baking, with a dedicated section for children.
Notable winners included Jeff Walbank, who clinched the Addingham Allotments and Gardens Association Trophy for ‘best in show’, Jill Cooke who received the Low Mills Cup for her 10 cut mixed daffodils, and Owen Hudson who was awarded The Children’s Shield.
The event’s full results included various categories such as flowers, floral art, photography, baking, and children’s classes, showcasing the diverse talents of the participants.
Looking ahead, the Addingham Allotments and Gardens Association has an array of events planned for the coming months, including talks on topics ranging from fruit and vegetable growing innovations to behind-the-scenes glimpses into renowned gardens.
These events, open to both members and non-members, aim to foster a sense of community engagement and passion for gardening among residents of Addingham.
