Children’s Home Kids Grow Mother’s Day Flower Baskets for Sale

In Hanna City, Illinois, Mother’s Day is getting a special touch with flower baskets grown and assembled by kids from the local Children’s Home.

These vibrant arrangements are the result of the efforts of children from our community who worked on Scott’s Prairie, a 76-acre therapeutic farmland nestled in Hanna City and operated by the Children’s Home. Scott’s Prairie serves as a nurturing space where youth can engage in activities beneficial to their well-being.

Proceeds from the sale of these flower baskets will be directed back to support Scott’s Prairie and the Children’s Home. Marc Britton, the site manager at Scott’s Prairie, shared his observations on the joy the children experience while participating in the planting process.

“It’s really heartening to witness the children immerse themselves in an environment like a greenhouse, which may be entirely new to them. The fresh air and sunlight create a serene atmosphere that uplifts everyone’s spirits,” Britton remarked.

Moreover, Britton emphasized the therapeutic value that farming and gardening activities offer to the children’s mental health.

“Engaging in farming, gardening, and planting activities has proven to be profoundly therapeutic,” Britton explained. “The opportunity to work in the greenhouse during the early spring months is particularly beneficial. We initiate these projects as early as March to ensure that everyone receives the essential sunlight crucial for mental well-being.”

The demand for these charming flower baskets is expected to be high, but interested buyers can secure their purchases tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Children’s Home location on Knoxville in Peoria.
