Community Volunteers Enhance Canal Park with Flower Planting

by Anna

In an effort to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Canal Park in Duluth, volunteers dedicated their time on Wednesday, June 5, to plant flowers in the area. The initiative aimed to “beautify” the surroundings, with volunteers diligently filling numerous streetscape planters.

Kristi Stokes, the president of Downtown Duluth, emphasized the significance of vibrant colors in enlivening the downtown atmosphere. “I think color really just livens up the downtown,” Stokes expressed. “It’s just more vibrant that way, and so we love to do this, and it’s great to be able to get volunteers to come out and do this.”

This annual tradition holds a special place in the city’s calendar, symbolizing community collaboration and a shared commitment to maintaining a visually appealing environment.

The volunteering efforts are set to continue on Thursday, June 6, as volunteers will return to plant flowers in the planters along Superior St., further contributing to the area’s charm.
