The Highlands Historical Society is organizing a celebration of dahlias, showcasing their diverse colors and patterns, at the end of August and early September.
The festivities will kick off with the Elevated Woodstock Party from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 27. This event, co-hosted by HHS and the Davis Family Vineyards at High Country Wine and Provisions and Highlands Smokehouse, invites attendees to don their 60’s attire and enjoy music, drinks, food, an art show, an auction, and other surprises.
On Thursday, September 5, the Flower Power Poster Party will take place at The Bascom. This event will honor Marina Tkach, the winner of the Dazzling Dahlia’s 2024 poster contest, and youth winner Nariah Godfrey. Cocktails and appetizers will be provided at this complimentary party, co-hosted by The Bascom.
The Dahlia Depot will be held from 8:00 AM to Noon on Friday, September 6, at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park. Flower growers are encouraged to bring their dahlias and other flowers to the park tent for use in vignettes and arrangements to be sold. Flowers of any type and greenery are welcome, as all floral materials are donated.
Later on Friday, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, and on Saturday, September 7, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Single Bloom Competition will take place at The Bascom. Entry fees are $5 for one bloom, $10 for three blooms, or $20 for up to eight blooms.
The Dazzling Dahlia Festival will be held on Saturday, September 7. Highlands will be adorned with beautiful floral vignettes, which can be viewed free of charge. Judging will be conducted online.
The celebration will conclude with the Flower Power Concert from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park. The band Steel Toe Stiletto will provide music and entertainment. This event, co-hosted by HHS and the Dahliabolicals, is a gift to the Highlands community.
