Trafalgar Flower Farm Prepares for Debut You-Pick Event

by Anna

In the serene countryside near Trafalgar, a new chapter unfolds for Broken Maple Farm, where a vibrant array of blooms awaits visitors.

Grace and Zane Schroeder, owners of Broken Maple Farm, have transformed their passion for gardening into a thriving business. Originally a cattle pasture, the farm now hosts a kaleidoscope of zinnias, Craspedia, ranunculus, canterbury bells, and stock.

On July 6, Broken Maple Farm will debut its first you-pick event, inviting guests to stroll through their picturesque grounds to hand-select flowers for personal arrangements. This marks the first of several public events planned throughout July.

The Schroeders’ journey into floral entrepreneurship began as a therapeutic response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for Grace, who found solace in sharing homegrown bouquets with colleagues at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis.

The couple’s move to Trafalgar in 2022 provided the space to expand their hobby into a full-scale operation. With Zane’s support and expertise as a medical sales representative, they launched Broken Maple Farm in 2023, quickly gaining popularity for their wedding floral arrangements and roadside bouquets.

Excited by the community’s enthusiastic reception, Grace Schroeder reflected on their journey: “We’re thrilled to share this with everyone. It’s been humbling to see the support.”

Future plans include additional you-pick sessions and Sunset Sip and Snip events, offering an evening of floral picking paired with refreshments from Tipsy Trailer on select dates.

While embracing their newfound role as community cultivators, the Schroeders emphasize that visits are by appointment only, ensuring a personalized experience for all attendees.

For those attending the July 6 you-pick event, tickets are available for purchase on their website. Visitors are encouraged to wear sturdy footwear, bring gardening gloves, and follow farm rules, including supervision of children and adherence to designated paths.

Broken Maple Farm promises a muddy yet enchanting experience, where every flower picked contributes to the farm’s blossoming legacy.
