The Village of Chase is set to be judged in this year’s Communities in Bloom competition for the first time.
Residents have embraced the contest, showcasing creative ideas and beautiful gardens throughout the community.
On July 9 and July 10, judges will tour the village on golf carts to view the various displays at homes and businesses.
The flower color choice for this year’s competition is orange. This was announced at a Communities in Bloom symposium held in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Alberta, on September 30, National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
“The color orange is not only the color of the flower but also the color of the relationship we want to build,” said Kendrick Cardinal, councillor of the regional municipality of Wood Buffalo.
In addition to the orange flowers, Chase’s Communities in Bloom committee selected upcycling as an extra theme. Residents are repurposing household items like wagons, ladders, and washing tubs to showcase flowers and decorate gardens.
“It’s a fun event that is bringing the community together while sprucing up yards, streets, and gardens,” said Chase Councillor Jane Herman.
The public is welcome to visit the stops on the Communities in Bloom judging tour. More details will be announced soon.
