National Botanical Garden in Ankara Showcases Rich Biodiversity.
The National Botanical Garden, located in Ankara, is Türkiye’s largest botanical garden and is drawing in visitors with its extensive biodiversity. The garden features around 1,200 different plant species and a collection of preserved animals.
Covering an impressive area of 2,200 decares, the garden operates under the Agricultural Research Policies Body of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. It is recognized as the second-largest botanical garden in Europe, showcasing hundreds of tree, shrub, and flower species thriving across its expansive grounds.
Mustafa Altuğ Atalay, the general manager of the agricultural body, stated, “With its technological infrastructure, seven laboratories, expert staff, and museum, this center is a true natural park. We are pleased that our people can visit and appreciate the biodiversity protected and cultivated here.”
The garden boasts 35 kilometers of pedestrian and bicycle paths, along with specialized sections dedicated to rare or endemic plants. Its greenhouses nurture saplings, ornamental plants, and vegetable seedlings, supporting both conservation and educational initiatives.
A notable feature of the garden is the National Herbarium, which houses thousands of dried plant specimens stored according to international standards. This serves as a valuable resource for scientific research and a comprehensive record of Türkiye’s botanical heritage.
Visitors can also explore Türkiye’s first “Agriculture and Biodiversity Museum” and an art gallery, both situated within the garden, enhancing the overall experience for all who come to enjoy this natural treasure.
