Springfield, Mass. (WWLP) – ReGreen Springfield, along with students from the Springfield Water & Sewer Commission’s Pipeline program, gathered in the Forest Park neighborhood at Glendell Terrace to plant nine large trees.
This initiative aims to increase shade in the area and enhance Springfield’s green spaces. In addition to the trees, the group planted 150 pollinator plants in a new garden on the terrace.
The President of ReGreen Springfield noted that Glendell Terrace has faced degradation, with several trees cut down over the past decade. Planting new trees is part of a larger effort to rejuvenate the area. “It is a used area, and we wanted to enhance that for them,” he said. “With the new trees, we are providing cleaner air, shade, beauty, and improving the quality of life for residents.”
Bloniarz emphasized the importance of community pride, stating that residents should feel proud of their surroundings and have access to green spaces. He added that tree planting efforts will extend beyond the Forest Park neighborhood to other areas across Springfield.
