Garden Enthusiasts Say Peace Lilies Will Keep Blooming if Left in One Place in Your Home

Peace lilies, known for their lush green foliage and elegant white flowers, are a popular choice for indoor plant lovers. Officially known as Spathiphyllum, these plants are celebrated for being low-maintenance and ideal for indoor environments.

When given the right care, peace lilies can bloom year-round, with each flower lasting up to a month or more. A critical factor in ensuring these plants flourish is their location within the home, as lighting plays a key role in their growth and blooming cycle.

Recently, a discussion on the Gardening UK Facebook page highlighted the best practices for caring for peace lilies. Joanne Millward, a group member, shared her excitement about acquiring a peace lily after admiring them online. She sought advice on the best spot to place her new plant to encourage continuous blooming.

“I fell in love with the peace lily after seeing some posts about them. I sent it to my husband, and he got me one. I love it,” Joanne wrote. “Now I’m just after some advice on how to look after it and the best place to sit her.”

The group members quickly responded with helpful tips, emphasizing the importance of light. The consensus was that peace lilies thrive in bright, indirect light but should be kept away from direct sunlight.

Sue Merry advised: “Lots of light but not direct sunlight. Only water when the soil becomes dryish. I water mine once a week, and I always water from the bottom, not the top.”

Helen Davies added that peace lilies are particularly thirsty plants. “Water as soon as you see the leaves lower, but try not to let them droop too much as it can stress the plant,” she noted. “They like a spot that’s just back from very sunny. For me, the best spot is in the hallway by the front door.”

Coral Smith shared her success with placing her peace lily near her front door, which features patterned glass. “Mine is years old, and I keep it just inside the front door. We have four flowers at the moment, but it never stops flowering in this spot,” she said.

However, the experts caution that while peace lilies can manage in low light, they are unlikely to bloom much, if at all, under such conditions. The ideal setting is bright, filtered light with no exposure to direct sunlight, as it can scorch their leaves. Additionally, peace lilies should be kept away from drafts, particularly near entrances, as they do not tolerate cold well.

By placing peace lilies in the right location, indoor gardeners can enjoy their beautiful blooms throughout the year.
