Rehoboth Art League Announces Inaugural Plant Sale and Educational Event.

In celebration of its horticultural roots, the Rehoboth Art League will host its first plant sale and educational event on Saturday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres.

Visitors will have the chance to explore the advantages of planting native species and discover the principles of garden design. Native plants, sourced from local nurseries Bella Terra and the Inland Bays Garden Center, will be available for purchase.

At 11 a.m., a Sussex County Master Gardener will present a free class on the benefits of native plants. Seating is limited, so interested attendees must register in advance at rehobothartleague.org/events.

Guided tours of the Homestead Garden, designed in 1931 by the league’s founder Louise Corkran, will be offered at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The garden, a treasured part of the RAL campus, retains its original colonial revival style. The tours will include a visit to the art league’s new native plant demonstration garden.

Keystone tree walks, led by a master naturalist, will be held at noon and 2 p.m. Participants will learn about the benefits of trees and explore native keystone trees on the art league’s 3.5-acre campus. Guides will also highlight invasive plants and trees and discuss their impact on native species.

Information tables staffed by experts from Delaware’s Master Gardener and Master Naturalist Programs will provide additional resources. Guests can learn about native plants, invasive species identification, soil testing, tree identification, integrated pest management (IPM) practices, lawn replacement ideas, rain gardens, and more.
