How Orchids Use a Simple Trick to Grow New Flower Spikes in Just Days

by Anna

An expert in orchids has revealed a straightforward method to encourage flower spikes on one of the most popular orchids found in flower stores and supermarkets.

The Phalaenopsis orchid, often known for its beauty, has been the focus of Miss Orchid Girl, a well-known YouTuber with over 564,000 subscribers. She shared her insights on how to enhance the blooming of these orchids, stating, “I’m going to explain how to make your orchids rebloom.”

The orchid specialist, Danny, clarified that the effective technique does not involve any homemade concoctions.

Danny dismissed the idea of using banana water, garlic water, or rose water to stimulate reblooming. Instead, he revealed that the key to promoting flower spikes lies in adjusting the plant’s environment.

“The trick is lowering the temperature,” Danny explained. He detailed that Phalaenopsis orchids are encouraged to bloom by experiencing a drop in temperature during autumn.

Danny emphasized, “By lowering the temperature to around 18°C, particularly at night, you can stimulate the production of new flower spikes. This doesn’t mean freezing temperatures, just a cooler environment.”

He advised maintaining this cooler temperature for several days or even weeks. Following this method, new flower spikes should start developing, leading to blooms in the spring, which is the typical growth cycle for these orchids.
