AUSTIN (KXAN) — With the arrival of fall, many people are considering planting trees and plants. A key factor to think about is which Texas native plants need less water. This is especially important in Texas, where drought conditions are common.
Vernon Effenberger, an information specialist with Take Care of Texas, discussed this topic with KXAN Meteorologist Rich Segal. He emphasized the importance of choosing drought-tolerant plants when selecting seeds for planting.
Some excellent options for drought-resistant plants include Cedar Elms, Desert Willows, and Texas Mountain Laurels. These plants can withstand the intense Texas heat, especially when daytime temperatures reach triple digits and rainfall is limited.
These trees require minimal maintenance while providing significant benefits as they grow.
