Viral Claims About Rare ‘Yogi Flowers’ in Turkey Debunked.
An image of a flower resembling the Padmasana yoga pose is circulating widely on social media, with claims that it is a natural “Yogi flower” found only in Halfeti village, located in the southeastern Şanlıurfa province of Turkey. Many posts assert that these rare flowers exhibit unique colors, appearing black in the summer and dark red in other seasons.
Social Media Buzz Around the Yogi Flower
Numerous users on X, formerly known as Twitter, have shared images of this flower. They assert that it is exclusive to Turkey and is nourished by the Euphrates River. One user, Vibhu Vashisth, commented, “Have you ever heard of the Yogi Flower? Turkey is the only place in the world where these flowers grow, in Halfeti village. They appear black in the summer and dark red in other seasons. The soil’s unique properties and anthocyanins, which are sensitive to pH levels, influence this color change. Nature is amazing!”
Another user echoed this sentiment, stating, “Turkey is the only place in the world where Yogi Flowers grow, fed by the Euphrates. They appear black in summer and dark red at other times.” MaheshB added, “Limitless Wonders of Nature. This rare flower only grows in Halfeti.”
Claims vs. Facts About the Yogi Flower
Claim: Social media posts suggest that the Yogi flower changes color with the seasons.
Fact: A fact-checking report by the news outlet ‘Factly’ has debunked these claims. The viral image is confirmed to be AI-generated, and there is no flower known as the ‘Yogi Flower’ that grows in Turkey.
In reality, the flowers that bloom in Halfeti are deep wine-red roses known locally as “kara gül.” These roses appear black in bud form during the summer and change color based on pH levels in the soil. Locals cultivate these roses and sell them to tourists, making Halfeti a vibrant destination each spring.
Factly conducted an analysis using an AI detector, which indicated a 99.9% likelihood that the image is AI-generated. They also used another tool, Hugging Face, confirming that the image was created with artificial intelligence.
Additionally, no credible evidence supports the existence of a flower called the ‘Yogi Flower’ in Turkey. A Google search revealed that while Halfeti’s roses bloom in a deep wine-red color, they can appear black as buds.
