Local Florist Spreads Joy with ‘Petal It Forward’ Initiative.
According to the Society of American Florists, 80% of people say receiving flowers makes them happy, but 88% feel even happier when giving flowers. The ‘Petal It Forward’ campaign is a goodwill initiative where participants hand out two flowers to others. The idea is to keep one and share the second to brighten someone else’s day.
Research has shown that flowers have an immediate positive effect on a person’s mood. Through ‘Petal It Forward,’ the Society of American Florists aims to spread happiness by encouraging people to gift flowers. Today, a Minocqua florist took part in the initiative.
Jana Acheson, after 25 years in education, opened Ethereal Designs Floral Studios in January. Her lifelong passion for flowers has helped her connect with the Minocqua community, and she saw ‘Petal It Forward’ as the perfect way to spread joy.
“I’m excited to share the love it brings to the community,” Acheson said. “It’s wonderful to work alongside my former students from Lakeland Union High School.”
Acheson partnered with the special education department at Lakeland Union High School. Together with her former students, she strolled through downtown Minocqua, surprising people with flowers. The recipients were delighted by the unexpected act of kindness.
“This is amazing. At first, I thought they were selling flowers,” said a tourist visiting Minocqua. “But this really touches my heart. I’m so moved.”
Acheson’s goal was simple—to brighten someone’s day. It’s safe to say she accomplished that.
“We often get caught up in the daily grind. Sometimes, we just need to pause and appreciate what flowers can bring,” Acheson added.
