Terry and Candace Stevens of Mobile began planting okra as a new hobby, but it quickly blossomed into something much larger.
“This is our first year planting,” Terry Stevens explained. “We started in March using seeds from my shed. After transferring them outside, they’ve been growing ever since.”
According to the Guinness World Records, Jack Reno Sweeney from New Orleans currently holds the record for the tallest okra plant, measuring 16 feet 4 inches.
Stevens expressed his desire for his plant to reach similar heights.
Recently, a crew from Byrd Surveying visited the Stevens’ home and delivered exciting news: their okra plant has surpassed Sweeney’s record by 6 inches, standing at an impressive 16 feet 10 inches.
“I’m going to continue to let it grow and pick okra,” Stevens stated. “It’s an easy thing to do, and everyone can do it.”
This couple has learned an important lesson: when life gives you seeds, you might just be on the path to a world record.
They have contacted the Guinness World Records and are currently awaiting a response.
