Geoje Island Flower Festival Opens, Blending Nature and Culture in “A Healing Journey”
The 18th Geoje Island Flower Festival, themed “A Healing Journey in Search of Flowers,” officially opened on October 26 at the Geoje City Agricultural Development Center’s outdoor stage and will run through November 3. Renowned as Korea’s leading handmade flower event, the festival offers a unique blend of local culture and stunning floral displays cultivated by the Geoje City Agricultural Development Institute.
Admission to the main festival grounds is free, though some attractions, including the jungle dome and jungle tower, require separate entrance fees. Festivalgoers can marvel at large chrysanthemum sculptures representing iconic Geoje landmarks, such as the Geoje Blue House, Meredith Victory, Giseong Hall, and the Geoje KTX, which are beautifully showcased around the institute’s lawn square.
In addition, visitors can explore Nongshim Theme Park, featuring 30 different topiary designs and over 100 varieties of chrysanthemums and wildflowers that capture the beauty of the autumn season. Another key attraction is the World Camellia Garden, which displays 250 varieties of camellias from both Korea and abroad.
This year’s festival extends its hours to 8 p.m. for the first time, allowing visitors to experience its beauty by day and night. The Cultural Arts Exhibition Hall presents around 400 chrysanthemum bonsai created by the Chrysanthemum Bonsai Research Association, along with displays of Geoje’s landmarks, Korean paintings, stone sculptures, calligraphy, and urban sketches that reflect the region’s cultural richness.
The festival schedule includes various performances, such as the Geoje Magistrate Inauguration, a K-Hip-Hop Concert, the Healing Music Festival, a Healing Fusion Korean Traditional Music Performance, the 12th Lee Si-woo National Song Festival, and the Youth Stocking Contest Finals. For hands-on experiences, over 40 activities are available, including sweet potato and peanut harvesting, plant-based projects, and craft-making activities, ensuring a memorable visit for all ages.
