Around 100 volunteers gathered to help plant trees by hand in Houston as part of a green initiative led by Trees for Houston. The event, aimed at creating accessible green spaces, took place at F.M. Law Park. Trees for Houston partnered with the Aramco family of companies, who provided funding for the tree planting, as well as for watering and maintaining the trees for the next two years.
Natalie Roberts, the project’s director, explained that while the trees will require daily care for the first two years, Trees for Houston will continue to monitor their progress after that time.
“Over the next couple of years, we’ll keep an eye on the trees and make any necessary adjustments,” Roberts said. “But we never fully walk away. We track the trees we plant, and we check in on them from time to time, even years later.”
Roberts also noted that the trees will continue to grow over the next 15 years, offering benefits such as shade, clean air, and a habitat for local wildlife.
“We believe this project will have a lasting impact on the community, especially since this park is so well-loved,” Roberts added.
Since its founding 40 years ago, Trees for Houston has planted over 800,000 trees across the city
