Nestled among the picturesque tulip fields near Amsterdam, the renowned Keukenhof garden has opened its gates for the spring season, showcasing an incredible array of flowers that captivate both gardening enthusiasts and social media influencers alike.
On sunny days, the garden’s paths, benches, and cafes are bustling with visitors eager to capture the beauty of the Netherlands’ iconic tulips.
The allure of Keukenhof is not just its stunning floral displays but also the way it has become a hub for social media enthusiasts. Austrian lawyer Daniel Magnus, inspired by influencer photos, visited the garden to experience its beauty firsthand.
“Whenever you see pictures taken by influencers, they create a new impression of locations, traditions, and people… You want to be there,” Magnus shared.
Magnus took advantage of the garden’s staged photo opportunities, including a small boat in one of the canals, designed specifically for Instagram-worthy shots.
Keukenhof’s staff meticulously plant and nurture approximately 7 million flower bulbs each year, ensuring a vibrant spectacle for the garden’s eight-week opening period.
The garden has evolved to cater to the public’s desire for social media content, creating picturesque spots like flower archways, pink velvet couches, and oversized wooden clogs.
The Keukenhof’s social media channels offer tips on capturing the perfect photo, while the Dutch tourism board advises on techniques to make images more dynamic. With over 1 million visitors expected, the garden’s meticulously hand-planted tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and other flowers provide endless opportunities for photography.
Gardener Patrick van Dijk noted, “There’s always something blooming. I think that’s why everyone is happy. There’s always something to see.” However, not all are pleased with the influx of photographers, as some nearby flower farmers have taken measures to protect their fields from being trampled.
