The annual Plantarium|Groen Direkt fair, a highlight in the Dutch tree nursery industry, recently concluded, drawing the attention of buyers, growers, and industry professionals. The two-day event serves as a platform for showcasing upcoming seasonal offerings, launching novelties, and fostering relationships within the industry. FloralDaily and BPnieuws were present to capture the event through a photo report.
The fair, which combines trade (Groen Direkt) with relationship management and marketing (Plantarium), attracted over 223 exhibiting companies, many of which have international ambitions. While the official statistics are yet to be released, the organizers anticipated around 3,000 visitors from the Netherlands, Europe, and beyond.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the Green Retail Awards, where a jury evaluated over 100 entries to select winners. The Diervilla splendens ‘G2X88544VAR’ (KODIAK MIXX), submitted by Valkplant from Hazerswoude-Dorp, won the Best Novelty category of the Green Retail Award contest.
A noticeable trend observed during the event was the emphasis on peat-free cultivation. Growers are increasingly adopting peat-free methods for more sustainable practices. This shift not only aligns with sustainability goals but also accommodates exporting to the UK, where peat bans are being implemented to promote environmental conservation.
Despite ongoing challenges, such as the economic impact of the pandemic, several exhibitors and growers expressed satisfaction with the current season. There seems to be a more balanced supply and demand, resulting in higher product quality. Despite financial constraints, buyers continue to purchase flowers, even opting for smaller or more affordable options.
The positive atmosphere prevailing at the exhibition reflects the resilience of the industry and the commitment to sustainable practices. As the Dutch tree nursery industry continues to evolve, events like Plantarium|Groen Direkt play a vital role in fostering innovation, relationships, and growth within the sector.
