PESHAWAR: In a surprising turn of events, beyond the anticipated upswing in advertising and the printing business, the 2024 election season has catalyzed a significant boom in the floriculture industry across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. At the vibrant Fawara Chowk in Peshawar Cantonment, the heart of the flower and rose petal trade, merchants are witnessing an unprecedented surge in business. Omar Khayam, a local flower vendor, shared insights into this thriving market during a conversation with the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
With a decade-long involvement in the flower business, motivated flower vendors are rising early to prepare exquisite flower bouquets and delicate petals to meet the escalating demands of election candidates and their enthusiastic supporters. Omar highlighted that prior to the commencement of the election, his daily flower sales hovered between Rs2000 to Rs2500. However, in the current electoral fervor, the figures have skyrocketed to an impressive Rs10,000 to Rs12,000. In response to the overwhelming demand, he has enlisted the assistance of five additional laborers and dispatched his father to the Pathoki Qasor district to procure fresh flower petals.
As the election campaign unfolds, the floriculture industry in Peshawar is not only witnessing a substantial boost in revenue but also expanding its operations to accommodate the heightened demand for floral arrangements. With the polling day on the horizon, industry insiders predict a further surge in sales, painting a promising picture for the floriculture trade in the region.
