MLC Dinesh Gooligowda Advocates for International Flower Market Near Bengaluru

In a bid to invigorate the floriculture industry in the state, Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Dinesh Gooligowda has penned letters to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, urging them to allocate funds in the upcoming state budget for the establishment of an international flower market spanning over 10 acres near Bengaluru.

Highlighting the existing gap in the floriculture sector, Gooligowda emphasized the lack of a well-equipped system for storing and exporting flowers, despite the substantial demand in the state. “Floriculture in Karnataka is flourishing, but it requires a systematic approach. Therefore, it is imperative to establish a flower market near Bengaluru that meets international standards, facilitating the export of flowers,” he stated.

Gooligowda pointed out that while Bengaluru’s KR Market and various city footpaths witness the sale of flowers worth crores of rupees, the absence of a structured system hampers the industry’s growth. Numerous flower varieties, highly sought after in the international market, face supply shortages due to inadequate information and awareness. The proposed international flower market aims to bridge this gap, ensuring a robust and efficient platform for the floriculture business in Karnataka.
