As International Women’s Day approaches on March 8, analysts are predicting an increase in flower prices in Russia, with bouquets expected to cost buyers an average of 15-20% more than the previous year.
Data analysis reveals that the average purchase of flowers in February 2024 ranged from 25.8 to 32.7 euros per bouquet, indicating an 18-20% surge compared to the prices observed in the same period last year.
The demand for flower bouquets is expected to intensify in March, leading to a further escalation in prices. Statistics from the “Check Index” indicate that the average purchase for flower bouquets between March 1 and March 7, 2023, witnessed a substantial 25% increase compared to the previous month.
Roses emerged as the most sought-after flower in February 2024, with an average price of 12.7 euros, marking a 15% uptick from the previous year. Chrysanthemums and carnations also experienced high demand, priced at 11.7 euros and 9.38 euros, respectively.
Retailers cite several factors contributing to the surge in bouquet costs. Logistical expenses, including delays in flower deliveries at the border due to transportation complications, have played a significant role. The rising wholesale prices from suppliers have further intensified the strain on the industry.
Sanctions and restrictions on aviation transportation have resulted in longer delivery times for flowers imported from countries such as the Netherlands and Ecuador. This has not only impacted the quality of the flowers but has also contributed to an increase in their overall price.
In addition to transportation challenges, retailers are grappling with heightened costs for packaging, consumables, rental spaces, and employee wages. These factors collectively contribute to the upward trend in flower prices, creating a complex landscape for the floral industry as it prepares for the surge in demand leading up to International Women’s Day.
