Schoneveld Breeding, a leading player in the horticultural sector, is set to revolutionize the market with the introduction of a groundbreaking gerbera variety named “Joybera.” This pot plant, meticulously bred over the past five years, is poised to make a significant impact as it hits the market, according to Gianfranco de Leo, the Area Manager for South Europe.
Unveiled for the first time at the recent Myplant & Garden event, Joybera is expected to officially launch at the upcoming FlowerTrials in June. De Leo expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, hailing it as a “game-changer” for the industry.
What sets Joybera apart is its exceptional ability to produce three or four flowers in the initial blooming phase, a notable departure from the typical gerbera plants that usually yield one or two flowers initially. De Leo highlighted the remarkable uniformity in both plant size and flowering time, further accentuating the plant’s appeal. Additionally, all flowers boast a distinctive dark center, creating a visually striking contrast with the flower’s color.
De Leo shared positive results from extensive trials conducted worldwide, spanning various climates and daylengths. “The performances were very good everywhere,” he affirmed.
Anticipating a revival in the gerbera market, de Leo explained how Joybera is expected to elevate the value of gerbera plants. Currently, market trends reveal gerberas facing price pressure due to concerns about overall quality. Joybera, with its unique features such as increased branching, closely grouped flowers, shorter leaves, and minimal susceptibility to insects and diseases, is poised to reverse this trend. The plant’s ability to produce a minimum of three flowers in the first bloom also enhances its shelf appeal.
Schoneveld Breeding’s existing gerbera range already consists of eight vibrant colors and is slated for market availability in 2025. Meanwhile, the innovative team at Schoneveld Breeding remains committed to continuous improvement, actively engaged in ongoing efforts to develop bicolored and double-flowered gerbera varieties.
In the evolving landscape of horticulture, Joybera emerges as a symbol of Schoneveld Breeding’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and delivering products that not only meet but exceed market expectations. As the countdown to the official launch at FlowerTrials begins, the industry eagerly anticipates the transformative impact of this revolutionary gerbera variety.
